Activity to understand challenges facing Vietnam
1. Meaning
Vietnam is facing many environmental and climate change challenges. This is a large topic, which normally requires a lot of data to illustrate. However, within the framework of this room, the following activities will stimulate the senses and judgment, and will initially help visitors visualize the risks that Vietnam is facing, and at the same time serve as a premise. for other contents in the room.
2. Description:
The activity includes cylinders mounted on the wall. Each block has a hatch in the front and a hand-sized hole on the side. Inside the hole there are objects for visitors to feel and guess what they are. Behind the trap door will be answer lines and condensed information about resource and environmental risks related to that object:
- Rotating propeller: Vietnam's fossil fuel sources (coal, oil) are no longer enough to supply domestic demand. Developing renewable energy sources is an inevitable choice to ensure energy security.
- Red brick: Urbanization - Rapid increase in population density not coupled with inadequate infrastructure development will aggravate environmental pollution. school.
- Air (air blowing in and out - or balloon): Air pollution not only has a global impact, because air is a common resource, but also directly affects public health and labor productivity.
- Net piece: Fishing - Exterminate fishing methods such as using electricity and explosives will destroy the environment and fish resources in the future.
- Tree branches: Consuming grown wood products contributes to protecting natural forests and biodiversity.
- Heat (incandescent lamp hidden inside): Vietnam is one of the countries most affected by global climate change.
- Nylon bags: Plastic waste - Vietnam in recent years has been among the top in the world in the amount of plastic waste discharged into the ocean.
Simulate storm winds
Vietnam is experiencing increasingly erratic storm seasons with many consequences, especially in areas that do not have a tradition of resisting major storms. With this activity, visitors can experience storm winds up to level 11-12 in a safe space, shaped like a public phone booth.
International cooperation
This wall serves as a declaration for the consensus of countries in their efforts to deal with climate change. The most important milestones will be shown from top to bottom
- 1827 J. Fourrier discovered the "greenhouse effect".
- 1896 S.A. Arrhenius found a connection between human production activities and the increase in CO2 concentration in the air.
- 1958 C.D. Keeling sees that CO2 concentrations are increasing and spreading evenly throughout the world, not just on industrialized continents.
- 1972 The famous quote "Think globally, act locally" was born in *We have only one Earth* by René Dubos - background report for the first conference on the environment of the United Nations United Nations.
- 1987 The definition of sustainable development in the Brundtland report: “is a development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability to ensure the needs of future generations”.
- 1988 IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) was born
- 1992 The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) was ratified by 154 countries
- 1997 The Kyoto Protocol was adopted in the 3rd UNFCCC Conference of the Parties (COP3). 36 industrialized countries and the European Union committed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 5.2% compared to 1990 levels by 2012.
- 2007 IPCC published a report, which confirmed with 90% certainty that global temperature increases are due to greenhouse gases emitted by human activities (compared to 66% certainty in 2001). Al Gore co-received the Nobel Peace Prize with the authors of the IPCC report.
- 2012 COP18 in Doha: decided to extend the Kyoto Protocol until 2020.
- 2015 COP21 in Paris: countries reach an agreement to replace the Kyoto Protocol after 2020, working towards the goal of limiting temperature rise to below 2°C (aiming for 1.5) by the end of the century compared to the pre-industrial revolution era.
- 2021 COP26 in Glasgow: Vietnam commits to bringing net carbon emissions to zero before 2050.

PHOTOSYNTHESIS PROCESS
The model describes the process of photosynthesis, when plants, algae and some types of bacteria use sunlight and absorb carbon dioxide (CO2) and water (H2O) from the air and soil to create oxygen (O2) and glucose (a type of sugar molecule).
Meaning:
- Oxygen (O2) is released for humans and other organisms to use through the respiratory process.
- Glucose is retained to provide energy for herbivores and eventually carnivores through food digestion.
- Balance the amount of oxygen (O2) and carbon dioxide (CO2) in the air.
- Feeding these plants provides a huge source of raw materials (garment, paper, energy, ...) and valuable nutritious food for humans.
LAND Erosion
Soil erosion is the process by which the nutrient-rich layer of soil on the surface is washed away due to the direct impact of wind or water during floods and indirectly by humans themselves when deforestation.
When there is rain and flood:
- Areas with many trees: water is retained on stems and leaves, seeps into the ground faster and more groundwater appears.
- Areas with few trees: most of the water flows above and destroys more surface soil, carrying away soil and nutrients.
Meaning:
Plants such as plants play an extremely important role in the soil:
- Limit and prevent surface soil erosion
- Contributes to storing and regulating the amount of underground water below
- Supports balance and regulation of climate (temperature, rainfall)
